How to Teach Planetary Health
As our grasp of the fundamental drivers behind environmental degradation and the Earth's crisis deepens, along with an awareness of their effects on human health and well-being, educators are more actively seeking information on a wide array of topics related to Planetary Health. There's a growing demand among educators for relevant educational resources to enrich their Planetary Health courses, including syllabi, case studies, slide decks and educational frameworks. We are dedicated to collaborating and contributing to the expanding movement toward advancing planetary health education for learners of all ages.
The Planetary Health Education Framework aims to guide the education of global citizens, practitioners, and professionals able and willing to address the complex Planetary Health challenges of our world today. The framework also seeks to inspire all peoples across the globe to create, restore, steward, and conserve healthy ecosystems for a thriving human civilization. We envisage that the framework will contribute to positive outcomes for the biosphere, overcoming the Planetary Health challenges before us.
The Planetary Health Education framework considers five foundational domains that we as a group believe comprise the essence of Planetary Health knowledge, values, and practice:
- (1) interconnection within Nature
- (2) the Anthropocene and health
- (3) equity and social justice
- (4) movement building and systems change
- (5) systems thinking and complexity
Planetary Health Syllabi Directory
PHA has reached out to Planetary Health educators globally, inviting them to contribute their syllabi to the Planetary Health Alliance's (PHA) expanding collection. This initiative aims to enrich the Planetary Health community by making these syllabi available on the PHA website, as part of the Planetary Health Syllabi Directory. The Directory aims to serve as a helpful resource for educators in the field of Planetary Health, supporting their course development endeavors.
